This movie had a very ‘Sci-Fi’ vibe to it, so at the very least, it was probably made-for-TV.
The only bit I can remember is an old man, who I think used to be a B-movie actor. Most of the films he did involved him fighting a certain beast/creature/alien.
For some reason, the fictional ‘thing’ he fought in these movies turns out to be real, so he tries to prepare this young man (the protagonist) to fight it.
Unfortunately, that’s all I can remember.
That’s the general idea behind Fright Night (vampire hunter). Maybe you saw the 2011 remake.
Don’t think so. I probably would have remembered it because of Colin Farrell. The 1985 original doesn’t look familiar either.
My Name is Bruce ( 2007 ) possibly. Bruce Campbell plays himself. He is kidnapped by some teens who accidentally unleashed some ancient evil. They think he is like his Ash Williams counterpart and can kill the creature. He thinks alternately thinks they’re crazy/ it’s a publicity stunt. He doesn’t realize it’s real until he actually faces the monster. The details are a little different in that he faces the creature, not so much he trains them. Although members of the small town accompany him to face the beast. Of course, they sort of train him as it turns out he doesn’t know how to operate a real shotgun etc.

I’m sorry, meant to include a link in the post above.
“Monster Makers”(2003)? Starring Linda Blair.
No, sorry. I’m pretty familiar with most of Bruce Campbell’s movies.
The actor I’m referring to isn’t an actual B-movie actor, he just plays one in the movie.
No to “Monster Makers” also.
Monster! (1999):

Thank you! This is the one.
Thanks everyone for the help!
Lots of guesses on this one. Nice to see these eventually solved.
