Looking for the name of an old black & white asian film (maybe seen in the 60’s? – with subtitles I think, or very little dialogue) about an old man who lives on a boat who reluctantly allows a little orphan girl into his life when she becomes indispensable to him. He continually tells her to go away but she is persistent and finally wins him over, as I remember.
That sounds like the plot of The King of Masks but it’s from 1999.
Yes, it’s a similar idea, but the old man is probably a fisherman and lives on his boat. The little girl is about 5 or 6 years old and approaches him while he is docked against a city sidewalk. Thanks!
The King of Masks is probably not old enough to be your movie, but the little girl and old man in it do live on a boat docked to a city sidewalk — and I think they at least have to fish for their own subsistence. I recommend at least checking it out. Cheers!
I checked out trailers for the King of Masks and unfortunately that’s not the movie – even though the premise if the story is so similar! I’m quite sure the film I saw was in B&W – there was no question that the girl was a girl from the start. I think the first encounter was her asking the old man if she could come aboard as his servant perhaps? At least I think she tries many ways to ingratiate herself to him. Later in the film I remember a scene where she sees him trying to reach an itch on his back and she offers to scratch his back – he is so relieved and then seems at that point to realize he needs her after all – just my recollection so maybe not the case. Just wish I knew the name so I could find it again!
sounds like a gem. hopefully it will be found. 🙂 I’ll certainly keep looking.
UGHHHH im looking for the same movie, watched it with my dad but he can’t seem to remember, now i’m having such a hard time finding this movie cause i wanna watch it so bad. lol..everytime i look it up in google or yahoo , porno keeps fucking popping up. ugh
If, in that movie, the old guy is arrested for something and is put in a bamboo cage, then that’s the same movie I’ve been looking for, too.
