This is another one that may have also been a dream, but again, I strongly believe it exists.
When I was a kid around the age of five (around 2000), my older sister and I would have to be taken care of by a nanny most days. Our nanny would bring over VHS tapes for us to watch. One of those tapes was Doctor Doolittle with Eddie Murphy and the reason I recall that so well is because I felt like a badass because Doctor Doolittle is PG-13 and I was 5.
One of the other movies she brought with her was some obscure children’s movie starring an orange alien (Possibly ALF, but I don’t think so). The orange alien had an antenna on the top of his head. His ears were long cones and his face looked like orange cheese with circular yellow spots. I remember what the cover of the VHS tape was. It was the five main characters standing on a sidewalk in a V formation with the orange alien front and center and the other kids staggered on either side of him in the background. I believe he had a skateboard under his foot in the Up position.
The alien, from what I remember, was adopted into a normal family. The family he was adopted into had a son of their own. Of course at first there is tension between the two of them, but by the end of the movie they are brothers/friends.
I vividly remember two specific scenes from the movie. The first scene is sort of a flashback scene. One of the normal kids friends is telling their friend group about a legend he heard of about buried treasure in their town. As he is describing the legend, the film cuts away to a scene of a man wearing a stereotypical fisherman’s outfit (Bucket hat with lures, vest with many pockets, green cargo pants, and rubber boots) and he enters a cave (made out of aluminum foil) in order to fish for survival. Instead of catching fish, his rod pulls up gold and silver coins. He plays with the treasure in his hands while laughing maniacally and then the scene fades away and the story goes back to the kids.
The second scene is a dream sequence. Early in the story the orange alien kid has a nightmare about a stereotypical jailbird (Black and white striped outfit) descending from their bedroom ceiling on a wire and stealing his brothers baseball caps from the hat rack near their bedroom door. The orange alien kid is paralyzed in his nightmare. He is sweating and trying to wake his brother up and warn him that his hats are being stolen. While the jailbird is stealing the hats, he teases the alien by pretending he will put some of them back, but then he stuffs them into his burlap sack anyway and cackles with self amusement.
There is a strong chance that this was an episode of some obscure TV show or an early Disney made for TV movie. It was in English and in color.
I have been searching desperately for years. Please help.
