90’s/Early 2000’s Horror Movie

I vividly remember watching what I think was a horror movie in the early 2000’s that was either made in the late 90’s or early 2000’s, but can’t quite remember the name. The one scene that stood out to me was either right at the beginning, or fairly close to it. A boy, his mother , and father are sitting at the table having breakfast or dinner when the boy starts choking on his food. When it’s clear that the boy can’t breath, his father tries to save him by performing a tracheotomy. Basically he tries to cut the boys through open to give him a slit to breath out of. Meanwhile the mother is screaming at the father to stop. Unfortunately, the kid ends up dying anyways. It didn’t really specify whether he just ended up choking, or if his father made it worse. Either way, I can’t remember what film this was. I’ve tried searching but all I seem to get for results are The Haunting of Julia/Full Circle which is not the film I’m thinking of.

If you know what it is and can help out that’d be awesome. Thanks.

Man Climbs to Heaven on Ladder

I am still unsure if this memory from my childhood is a dream or not. I swear it exists, but have not had any luck in finding it.

When I was around five years old (around 2000) I visited my godmother with my family. Her son was in his late teens at the time. He was sitting on the couch watching a movie that I was not allowed to watch, but I kept sneaking peeks anyway. They had a breakfast bar that the couch sat up against and you could see into the kitchen from the living room. I got out my Tech Decks and played with them at the bar while he watched the movie.

From what I remember, a man living in a London style apartment opened his apartment window and got on the fire escape. The fire escape ladder rose straight up into the sky and was higher than the first layer of clouds. When he climbed through the cloud layer, he wound up in a empty room with a concrete floor a lot like a parking garage. Then a man, his father (possibly Dennis Hopper), appears and they talk for a while. The man asks his dad where his older twin brothers were. His father says that they are with him. This is when things get weird. The father reaches up into his nostril, down to the elbow, and pulls out one of the brothers. Then, the brother reaches up into his nose, also elbow deep, and pulls out his twin.

That’s all I can remember because then we had to leave. I don’t think it was a TV show because I can recall a Blockbuster case sitting on the bar. It was in English and color, but had a very bland color palette. Black, Dark Blue, and Gray. Slightly overexposed.

Please help.

Kid’s Sci-Fi Adventure Movie

This is another one that may have also been a dream, but again, I strongly believe it exists.

When I was a kid around the age of five (around 2000), my older sister and I would have to be taken care of by a nanny most days. Our nanny would bring over VHS tapes for us to watch. One of those tapes was Doctor Doolittle with Eddie Murphy and the reason I recall that so well is because I felt like a badass because Doctor Doolittle is PG-13 and I was 5.

One of the other movies she brought with her was some obscure children’s movie starring an orange alien (Possibly ALF, but I don’t think so). The orange alien had an antenna on the top of his head. His ears were long cones and his face looked like orange cheese with circular yellow spots. I remember what the cover of the VHS tape was. It was the five main characters standing on a sidewalk in a V formation with the orange alien front and center and the other kids staggered on either side of him in the background. I believe he had a skateboard under his foot in the Up position.

The alien, from what I remember, was adopted into a normal family. The family he was adopted into had a son of their own. Of course at first there is tension between the two of them, but by the end of the movie they are brothers/friends.

I vividly remember two specific scenes from the movie. The first scene is sort of a flashback scene. One of the normal kids friends is telling their friend group about a legend he heard of about buried treasure in their town. As he is describing the legend, the film cuts away to a scene of a man wearing a stereotypical fisherman’s outfit (Bucket hat with lures, vest with many pockets, green cargo pants, and rubber boots) and he enters a cave (made out of aluminum foil) in order to fish for survival. Instead of catching fish, his rod pulls up gold and silver coins. He plays with the treasure in his hands while laughing maniacally and then the scene fades away and the story goes back to the kids.

The second scene is a dream sequence. Early in the story the orange alien kid has a nightmare about a stereotypical jailbird (Black and white striped outfit) descending from their bedroom ceiling on a wire and stealing his brothers baseball caps from the hat rack near their bedroom door. The orange alien kid is paralyzed in his nightmare. He is sweating and trying to wake his brother up and warn him that his hats are being stolen. While the jailbird is stealing the hats, he teases the alien by pretending he will put some of them back, but then he stuffs them into his burlap sack anyway and cackles with self amusement.

There is a strong chance that this was an episode of some obscure TV show or an early Disney made for TV movie. It was in English and in color.

I have been searching desperately for years. Please help.
