I think the movie was Polish, but I’m not 100 percent. Definitely Eastern European, though. It was in color, and I think I saw it in theaters in the late 1990s, but I could be wrong on the dates.
All I remember is that the movie featured the story of a Jewish woman during the Nazi occupation, who is being hidden in a big manor house so that she won’t be captured. In one scene, I remember that she walks outside on the balcony of the house, where a neighbor sees her and speculates that she is a Jew. In another scene, she has to bribe someone who threatens to inform on her by giving him gold coins. And when she runs out of the coins, she has to face the possibility of sleeping with him instead.
I know, not the lightest of subjects.
