Two  young men visit a country estate. One of them breaks his leg and remains behind to recouperate. He falls in love with the farm girl and she becomes pregnant with his child. He wants to marry her but because of her class he decides to leave and go back home with out her. Years later he goes on a painting holiday with his wife and stops to ask for directions to the old farmhouse from a young man working in a field. He is unaware that he is speaking to his son.
