The plot that I remember is as thus:

A boy finds a magical rock in the forest as an opening scene or a flashback.

A family called the browns exists, and the parents disappear suddenly, but the son can talk to them via laptop, but I think it was a fake version to make him think they were ok.

He goes on an adventure to find them, runs into the boy with the rock who is all grown up. He stays at the guys place or something, there’s a scene where he walks down the stairs and there are green lights everywhere.

He comes across a girl along the way, and when he rescues his parents from being in the jar, they adopt the girl into the family.

It was: In english. On a home television. Either a made for tv movie, or a vhs rented from the library, or a movie airing on tv.

It can’t be any newer than 05. If my memory of the laptop is accurate, it also can’t be any older than the 1980s or so.

It definitely felt like a full plot, so not a tv episode, unless it was a miniseries.
