Old horror movie with mad scientist and “ghost dog”?

Hi.  My mom wanted me to see if anyone could help her figure one out.  She (in her late 70s) says she remembers seeing a movie on TV roughly in the 1954-1956 time frame that made a lasting impression on her.  It had a mad scientist who was hoping to reanimate the dead, and he first successfully performed the experiment on a dog (German shepherd she thinks).  It worked, but the dog came out aggressive and “weird”, and she said it could walk through walls which makes it sound to me more like a ghost than a revived corpse.  She remembers it snarling and baring it’s teeth a lot.

She says he planned on then doing the same thing to a human but she doesn’t think he ever had a chance to do so.  And she thinks the dog eventually killed the mad scientist.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    1. Hmm, I’ll have to check that out and let you know, it doesn’t sound exactly like what my mom’s describing, but I know how memories can get twisted around. Thanks for the lead!

  1. I’m almost certain that this is it. I read some user reviews on IMDb.com and they even mentioned a dog that could walk through walls. I don’t have time to view it right now, but the full movie is available on YouTube. I provided the link, just click on it below.

    1. That sure looks like it might be it… I can’t be sure until I show it to my mom, but it sure looks right. Ironically, I searched for it on Amazon and it’s in a horror 4-pack that I actually bought on DVD a few years ago, so I’ll dig it out and let her borrow it this weekend.

I’ll let you know if we can consider it solved!

      1. Did you ever find out if this was the one? Just following up, you’ve always responded before, so please let me know. Thank you.

        1. Hi Livinghead. I’m really sorry, I actually thought I replied a long time ago. Yeah I showed a few clips to my mom and she says she believes that’s it. I appreciate your help and sorry for not confirming earlier!
