Old film about India and British traveller

I watched a big part of this film, but I can’t find it’s title to watch it again. I remember some old British travelling through the India. On his path he meets the different scenes, soldiers raping woman, village headman agreeding to make suiside to save his people, young renegade soldier and some more. With this group he walks through chaos and violance. In the end he lays at the tree and dies.
