Back in the 80’s I remember watching a rented movie where a young girl left to go to school and while she was gone, her father was killed in a traffic accident.  She couldn’t deal with the inability to say goodbye.  Later on, some way, he returned to her so she would have the ability to say goodbye and she could move on.  I remember him approaching her as she sat on the staircase in the house.  It was very mysterious.  I don’t remember details but I had a similar experience in losing my dad so this greatly impacted me.  Can anyone help?
