After spending an awful amount of time trying to remember a movie I saw a long time ago, I finally posted a message here for help … about an hour ago.

Sure enough, no sooner do I post than I remember it; and, not only that, it’s a classic: Frenzy.

Sorry so stupid.

I believe this is a 1970s film. I’ve googled my meager memories of it until I ran out of ideas. I hope someone can direct me to it.

The lead is, I think, a police detective, and middle-aged. His wife is not even subtext, mere comedy relief, not contributing to the plot. But she makes him these bizarre inedible meals — I think one was octopus or squid — and at one point serves him a margarita. He asked what was in it; and, when she told him, I think he became ill (evidently, this movie was made before margaritas were well-known).
