Woman returns home in the south drunk old man and friend in her house

A young woman, blonde if I recall, and possibly down and out, returns to her family home in the south, outside New Orleans possibly.   There’s an old drunk man living there, who might have been a writer at one time, there are lots of books laying around.  There’s also a younger friend of his living there, I thought it was Peter Sarsgaard but can’t find anything that matched for him in IMDB.  Anyway, the guys just drink and talk all the time, lots of sitting outside in the rural yard.  Eventually the woman helps them get their act together, they become a sort of family, and I think it might be revealed that the old man is really her father.

  1. Thank you so much! That’s it! I don’t know why the real case (Travolta, Johanssen, Macht) in my head became John Goodman, Rebecca Romijn, and Peter Sarsgaard!! How funny! Thanks again!
