I can only recall one scene from the movie (it may have been a TV movie but I don’t believe so). The protagonist (a male action-y type) was visiting the home of an older man who either currently was or used to be a Nazi hunter, seeking information about something or other. At some other point (maybe right afterwards, maybe not) the older character is shown to be murdered, perhaps as a result of his interaction with the main character. I believe these scenes take place somewhere in Europe. I don’t recall specifically but I think the movie is from the first decade of the 21st century.
Note: My memory for this movie was triggered by that related subplot from American Horror Story season 2, but that’s not what I’m thinking of.
*** The older actor who played the Nazi hunter in my mind strongly resembles Jerry Orbach. If I could remember the name of this actor, I could find the movie, but of course I don’t, and google searches for “actor who looks like Jerry Orbach” have proved fruitless.**
“The Boys from Brazil”(1978)?
Nope, it was definitely a more modern movie, late 1990s at the earliest (although I’m pretty sure more recent than that). If it helps, the older actor is someone fairly well-known who has been in a lot of movies. That I do remember. He is not some novice.
The older guy was played by Laurence Olivier and the young guy was played by Steve Guttenberg. This scene is at the beginning of the movie and is in South America, but I think the older guy was in Europe. Steve Guttenberg’s character is killed while on the phone.
Sounds interesting, but not the movie I’m seeking. I haven’t seen anything with Steve Guttenberg and Laurence Olivier together.
