When I was a kid (late 60’s/early 70’s), I remember seeing something on TV that scared me witless.  I think it was black and white, but could be wrong.  It seemed like the movie revolved around noises from downstairs in a house.  It seemed like the family living there knew what was down there.  Seemed like there may have been a trap door to the basement, but maybe I’m mistaken and it was a normal stairwell.  Anyway, I think the noises got so loud the man went down to try to quiet things down.  He may have been overcome by the monsters.  I remember the monster hands had long fingers and/or nails and the camera showed shadows of them as they starting creeping upstairs.  I’ve been trying to figure out what this could have been.  I can’t locate a Twilight Zone episode that fits, and it may have been a movie and not a show.
