It starts off with a man in jail, he meets up to who i think it was the lawyer; a woman that is open to listen to him and find out the truth about what happened. He has a scar in his head from something that led up to the murder that got him in jail and i think he was bald. He was in jail for allegedly killing his wife and two young daughters.
The woman goes on to search for clues (?) in his now abandoned house, and as she goes up the stairs she stumbles across what i remember being a diary in one of the steps. she starts reading it and we see the flashbacks of the house being brand new and the whole family present and we get to see everything that happens as she’s reading it.
by the end the two little girls get shot by someone (i don’t remember being the dad). They are in their rooms when it happens and dad sees it and goes up to them, i believe.
Your description reminds me of “Fatal Vision.” Not all the details that you mention match my memory: I don’t remember him being bald, or stairs, but it’s been a long time so I have probably forgotten a lot.
