I have a vague memory of turning the tv on at a very young age and catching the end of a movie.

A girl (who was at least a teenager, if not older) and her father were somehow traveling to another realm. Maybe it was time travel, but I feel like it might have been into a storybook.

All I remember is that in the end, whatever they were using to travel (I remember it as a crystal, but could have been anything) and the dad was lost in the realm.
