I remember watching this movie as a child. It is b&w. Some eggs ate found in a tunnel or excavation in a town. They hatch and are demons(I think). At the end of the movie people arevescaping in a bus and you see the shadow of the devil over the town that is in flames.

Quatermass and the Pit (1967)
Also known as Five Million Years to Earth.
This movie was based on a 1958 TV serial which was in B&W, but the movie was color. The demon eggs you mention are actually mummified aliens. Here is the IMDb page for the movie?

Sorry, that was the TV serial. Both of these end with a giant image of the alien over the town, and they do look like devils. Quatermass implies in both versions that our image of the devil is our subconscious racial memory of these ancient aliens! Both are great sci-fi. Here is the IMDb listing for the film.

There was no children though and London is no town. The movie is also in color. But that is what came to mind when I read the title. Another remote possibly is the first version of Invaders from Mars.

Oh, I read it wrong. There was no children. So that would probably be the movie.
And “Invaders from Mars” , the original, was in color as well. I think the op saw the original b&w TV serial, or saw the movie on a b&w TV.
Well, some things don’t match, but I found the entire original serial on YouTube. Here it is.
