Man takes the blame in court for a murder committed by his girlfriend

I saw this one on local TV in the mid-2000s, so the movie was probably released in the 1990s or early 2000s.

There was a couple, a man and his girlfriend (maybe wife), that was blackmailed by a man. As far as I remember, the blackmailer knew something about the girlfriend’s past, but both the man and the girlfriend acted like blackmailer’s story is not true.

The blackmailer was murdered and the couple was brought to court (trial by jury). During the court, both the man and the girlfriend tried to prove that they are innocent, but closer to the end of the trial it looked like they will be found guilty.

Before the closing arguments/last words, the man, the girlfriend, and their lawyer held a conversation that the trial doesn’t look good, and maybe one of them should take the blame so the other avoids prison. The girlfriend said that she will take the blame because the jury is mostly women, so she will get a better sentence.

But when the man had the last words, he looked at the girlfriend and took the blame so she can go free.

The closing scene is the girlfriend being in a street cafe or something like that with another woman. The woman asked something like “how you ended up here?”, the girlfriend smiled and said something like “men trust me”, so we understand that she was guilty.
