It is a movie (I think made in the ’90s). It opens with a bear, maybe two, escaping form a compound where they’re caged up. I think it was when someone was about to kill them?

There is a family with a younger brother and older sister who try to keep the bear, with a neighbor boy’s help, in their tree house. The neighbor boy agrees to keep the bear a secret if the sister will go on a date with him. I think the brother and sister live with just their father.

It is set in America or Canada I believe.

The movie isn’t Wild America or Alaska.

I only remember one scene.  I believe I was around 6 when I watched it, so I don’t know if it actually was eerie or inappropriate, or if, because of my age, I thought that.

A boy was showing a girl his tree-house in a woods.  I think he had slugs or some kind of slug-like bug/critter, which (if I remember) she wasn’t grossed out by, but wasn’t super impressed either.  I think she held one.  Then he kissed her and started taking off his clothes and so did she.

I think it was maybe a flashback to a character, and a minor part of the movie.

It was in color, and in English as far as I remember (though the boy might have been foreign, or if he wasn’t, the girl might have been) and I watched it sometime between 1994-2000 maybe?
