Hi. I just randomly stumbled upon this site today and thought that maybe someone here could help me identify a movie from my childhood that has, no joke, haunted me since I was a kid. I’ll try my best to recall all of the details from this film that I can, but I can assure you, I only watched this thing once -due to the nightmares it caused. Honestly, looking back, it’s quite possible that I dreamed this whole movie up seeing as how I have been unable to find it over the years, have never heard anyone else mention how terrifying and disturbing it was, etc. Anyway.
I’m 31, so this movie probably came out in the 80s, early 90s. I know that we rented it on VHS from the local library. The cover (if I remember correctly) might have had some nighttime seen on it; dark trees, branches, the moon, looking up into space, stars, etc.
-I believe that in the movie a boy is abducted or stolen from earth, maybe he leaves with some person from another planet, etc -somehow this boy ends up in a different world. While he is missing his family gathers together to try to figure out what the heck happened to the kid.
-I recall one particular scene where a family gets pulled over on the road. There’s a boy in the backseat of the car and the cop talks to the kid through the window. The boy has a toy cap gun and I believe the cop discusses the toy with the kid.
-The most disturbing part of the film takes place in this alternate world. Apparently to become part of this culture, or to join them, or maybe as a form of punishment, people are forced to slide down this big slide into a pool of goop, some sort of strange colored liquid. I’m not really sure if they ever come out or not. I just remember being terrified of this scene.
That’s all I can remember, unfortunately. Did I dream this thing up or is it an actual movie? Would love to know.
