Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to identify a movie for years with no luck. I’m hoping someone here recognises it.

• I watched it in the early 2000s

• Rented it on DVD from Xtra-Vision (Ireland)

• It was a live-action family movie

What I remember about the plot:

The movie starts in suburban America with a family of four. There’s a teenage brother and sister (roughly 13–15). Their dad goes to New York on a business trip, and the kids think he’s up to something dodgy. They somehow get a lot of cash and follow him to NYC to investigate.

In New York, they befriend a female taxi driver: • Blonde / very light blonde

• Curly hair / perm

• Big friendly smile

She drives them all around NYC as they follow their dad.

There’s a scene where the dad goes into a dark, dingy basement in a building. It’s loud and full of men doing “business” (possibly Asian men), and it feels suspicious rather than scary — more mystery than crime.

DVD cover:

This is one of the clearest memories: • A taxi driving/flying through New York

• The kids’ heads popping out of the windows

• Shocked / excited expressions

• The taxi driver visible, smiling

Very “early 2000s family adventure” style artwork.

What it is NOT:

• Not Home Alone 2

• Not Taxi (2004)

• Not animated

• Not a big blockbuster (possibly straight-to-DVD or TV movie)

At this point I’m wondering if it was an obscure or unsuccessful release, which might explain why it’s hard to find online.

Any ideas at all would be hugely appreciated — even partial matches or “this reminds me of…” suggestions. Thank you!
