I have tried to identify this movie for years.  I recall it scared hell out of me as a child, when I saw it on television in the early ’60s.  The  only scene I can remember is one in which the protagonist and his lady are being pursued across the countryside by a group of mind-controlled citizens of a totalitarian state.  The actor’s name is just beyond my grasp!  He was in his late 30s to mid 40s when the movie was filmed.  This was a rare leading man role for him, I think, as I recall him primarily as a character actor.
