This was a children’s cartoon shown in what is now Saint Petersburg, Russia at some point between 1988 and 1992. I only remember one scene – I think it was at the end of the movie. The main character, a young girl, succeeds in whatever she was trying to do (which I think had something to do with being for the good of her people or some such nonsense) and dies/ascends/morphs into this string of twinkly lights flowing prettily across the sky. Not much to go on, I know. Having since watched a lot of anime, I’m tempted to say it was in that style, but I was about 5-6 years old at the time so can’t vow to it.
I’m pretty sure it was in color. I don’t remember if it was a dub or a sub, but somehow I don’t think it was actually a Russian movie – more like foreign animation that made it past the censors. I did see it on TV, likely a weekend morning.
Any help is appreciated. I don’t hold out much hope that someone will recognize what the heck I’m talking about, but this scene has been wafting up from my subconscious for years now and I’d love to locate the source. Thanks, guys!
