Hey guys, I’m Looking for a thriller/drama (likely 2000s-2010s, maybe a TV or direct-to-TV movie) :

A couple constantly argue they’re raising five children in a toxic relationship. The husband is doing everything he can to support the family, but through unfortunate circumstances he gets fired from his job in a heated argument with his boss after showing up late one day.

He later discovers his wife has been secretly taking the family’s savings.

One day while she’s asleep, he finds a stash of money hidden in her shirt (in her chest area). This explains why their money had been “disappearing” from excess expenditures.

Their lives had already been miserable.

In the opening scene, he’s sitting at the table with a gun nearby, waiting for her to wake up so he can confront her about it.

He then has a vivid fantasy sequence where he kills his wife and the rest of the family, but he can’t bring himself to kill their youngest daughter. He escapes with her instead.

Realizing what he’s done, he knows he’s in trouble with the law. Still, he takes the girl with him in a pickup truck, trying to start over. They lay low in another town. He takes a job at a café/diner and comes home to her every day. He even meets a new woman and starts to fall in love.

He also becomes friends with a local cop because of their shared military background.

The daughter, being a kid, sneaks out one day to play at a playground while he’s at work. The ccopher father befriended finds her alone on the swingset after curfew, and this raises questions. Over the next few weeks, the cop slowly investigates the man’s background.

Eventually, the truth unravels. The man is arrested, and in the chaos the daughter is struck by a vehicle while trying to help him as the cops close in.

Final twist: it cuts back to the beginning at the kitchen table. The entire sequence was just him imagining/daydreaming what might happen if he killed his family.

None of it actually occurred.

I found a very similar description on a subreddit before — someone recalled a film where a man kills his wife/ children, flees with his daughter, hides out, meets a woman, and it all turns out to be in his head. It sounds almost identical to what I remember, but I haven’t seen a confirmed title yet.

This movie is in english and in color and I remember seeing this movie sometime last year but i couldnt recall the name. I believe it was on a TV channel with vintage movies or something like that.
