Late 80s/90s movie about a obnoxious/loveable man who robs a grocery store and convinces a…

… man and his kids (who were on their way to school/work) to be his getaway.

I saw this movie when I was a kid, in the 90s most likely. I remember the main character (the robber) reminded me of John Candy, but it wasn’t him. The movie opens with a frustrated father I believe trying to get his kids ready for school, they stop at the grocery store for doghnuts on their way. The robber does his thing and then somehow convinces the father and his kids to help him get away. I don’t remember much else except for the fact that the robber is actually a nice guy and enjoys the time he spends with the family. I also remember the last scene taking place in a circus that is set up in a warehouse. I watched a lot of movies as kid so I could have some of these details wrong but I would love some ideas if anything comes to mind! 🙂
