Hey, I remember watching a movie on TV in the late 80’s or 90’s about a future civilization that is either controlled by or worships some sort of machine that featured a ring that spun around and emitted a “whirring”. Very foggy memory but has stuck with me nearly 20 years. Could have been black and white but I remember it in color and imagine it was made between 1970 and 80 but could have been earlier.

“The Time Machine”, the 1960 version. It had rings that would spin and create images and sound.
And yes, at the end the future humans are worshipping it in the cave.
