Old monster movie – Monster awake/alive at end as hero leaves

I’m looking to determine the name of a movie I saw on TV sometime in either the late 1970s or very early 1980s. I do not think it was a made for TV movie. I believe the movie was likely older than it’s air date given that it was on TV before movie channels and may have been black and white.

It was a monster movie and possibly a comedy too. There where one or two male lead characters that fight off the monster(s). I believe there was at least one female supporting character. The monster(s) were humanoid and I am very confident that it/they were some type of classic monster(s) such as vampire, mummy, etc.

The main characters traveled to the town where it took place because at the end, as they leave, there is twist and one of the monsters is alive in the back of the carriage, wagon, or cart as they drive/ride off. I’m pretty sure that this vehicle was not a car and didn’t have an engine. I think it was a horse drawn vehicle, but not entirely positive. The end leaves a lot up to the imagination – the viewer knows the monster is awake/alive, but you don’t see the outcome to know if hero/heroes are attacked or know if they survive.

The location was either a castle, an old stone town, or both.

This was not a scary movie – it was aired on regular US TV and watched by me a very young child.

Thanks for your help!

    1. Yeah, I think you saw the American version, which is no.longer in circulation. I saw it, too, on television in the late seventies, but don’t recall the ending. It is twelve minutes shorter than the European cut.

  1. Hi and thanks for the quick feedback. It isn’t Fearless Vampire Killers. I believe the monster at the end is male and the hero(es) are up front and don’t see it.
