I’m looking for a movie I saw on German TV when I was a kid in the early 80s. I don’t know what country this movie is from, I guess America. I don’t know any names. It must be an older flick probably from the 70s. It was in color and can’t be older than mid or late 60s.

Basically an adventure film about a treasure hunt on a tropical island. Some guy finds a map in a little figurine of a scarabaeus. He hires a crew and a ship to go on treasure hunt. They face many dangers, find the spot on the map but only to discover another map pointing to another place on the island. Each time they find the X on the map they only find yet another new map. This goes on several times and one by one members of this motley crew die “ten little indians” style (traps, wild beasts, cannibals). In the end a lone survivor drifts into insanity (but I can’t remember too well how it really ends).

The film has a special kind of atmosphere, weird, a scent of strange humor and slightly surreal. I know a lot of even hard to find and rare flicks and I searched the internet already for clues. But I just can’t find anything. As if I’d just had a dream you know
