I saw a movie back in the early 80s in elementary school. It was in English and in color. I think the title was something like “The Boy Who Couldn’t Lose” but i don’t think that is it, since I have searched for years. ..
There is a boy who becomes very lucky, and always wins. I only remember two scenes; he throws a basketball over his head and swooshs it, and at the end of the movie he almost gets hit by a truck, but falls in a man hole and it misses him. I’m fairly certain this movie was aimed at kids as I saw it on “movie day” in school.
The New York Times, Sunday, September 11, 1983: The Guide p. 12 has the following listing for Saturday, September 17, 1983:
5:00 [p.m.] (4) YOUNG PEOPLE’S SPECIAL: “The Boy Who Couldn’t Lose.” Drama about a boy who believes he has divine protection
I can’t find any more info about it, either. I do note that it’s not listed in IMDb’s episode list for the Young People’s Special series, a series which doesn’t begin until 1984.
For what it’s worth, the same 5:00 p.m. listing also appears in The New York Times, Saturday, September 17, 1983 p. 42. In both cases, it’s scheduled for 30 min. (followed by NFL Week in Review at 5:30). So, if the film you saw was a 30-minute short, this could be it.
