70’s Horror Flick

Okay, so I have this memory of a slasher/horror film that I saw when I was a young child. It was the 2nd film in a double feature a drive-in theater with my folks and I was supposed to be asleep in the backseat at the time, but I woke up briefly and only remember this one scene. My guess is that it was in the late 70’s, but it could be the very early 80’s. Anyway, what I remember is this guy is in a diner, it’s late at night, and there is this waitress that is taking care of him and she keeps calling him names like “sugar” or “honey” or “baby” whenever she comes to the table to take care of him and every time she does he gets angrier and angrier and tells her to stop with the names, but she won’t listen. Eventually he leaves the diner and waits until she’s finished with her shift and he follows her. At this point he’s wearing one of those see-thru clown or maybe hobo masks and he snatches her and drags her someplace more private where he then proceeds to kill her with a knife. He may have even had her hanging by her hands with rope and the scene is kind of gruesome…at least I think it was. Anyway, I’m 44 now and this scene has stuck with me through the years. Sure would like to know what the movie was. I’ve googled keywords over the years and haven’t found anything, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  1. “Nightmare”(1981)? a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain?

I haven’t actually seen this one, but I know the killer wears a see thru hobo mask.
