Next door husband and wife seem normal but it turns out they are serial killers with some kind of…

… stainless steel torture room

I believe this movie was from the 90’s and I thought it was possibly a compilation film with this section directed by Robert Rodriguez or produced by Quentin Tarantino but checking IMDB seems to rule all of that out.  I think the movie had the people living in an apartment and possibly their neighbor or a kid got into their seemingly normal looking place while they were out and discovered they had a crazy stainless steel looking murder room.  Said person may have then become trapped in the apartment, I’m not sure.   I believe the husband was a tall guy dark hair might have worn glasses.

    1. Not People Under the Stairs which was a “true” horror film. I don’t think this movie was out and out horror. It may have had no blood or gore at all just the suspense of finding out your normal looking neighbors are actually insane. Whereas the mom and dad in People Under the Stairs were clearly out and out insane.

  1. Unfortunately no, neither of those but thanks for putting them out there. I really think this one was from the very late 90’s and it wasn’t exactly a thriller or horror I don’t think. I think it was more like an anthology film where you had a lot of different characters like “Crash” or “The Ice Storm” and I think the killer next door neighbors were just a small part of the overall plot and not the main thrust of the movie.

  2. I Doubt it is it, but did you check out “Four Rooms (1995)” No murder room, but a prostitute found in bed springs of a bed. Hotel, not apartment building. Was an anthology film though. Like I said, probably not it, but worth checking just in case your memory mashed up a few movies…

  3. Wow, what timing! Assuming “The Abyss” is correct, both “daryloatsmustache” and “Rerolled” answered the question with the exact same timestamp. The system posted daryloats’ comment first, so he must have gotten in first by seconds. After the question had been sitting unanswered for weeks! At any rate Mr. Mustache is entitled to be credited with the Solve, but must register for an account first: http://www.irememberthismovie.com/wp-login.php?action=register

  4. That’s odd…I thought that was a submarine movie? I can’t remember it well enough…Congratz both…

    1. I assumed it must be some other movie named “The Abyss,” but maybe he meant it was “Four Rooms” after all. Since nebrunner didn’t specify we may never know for sure.

      1. Yeah mine doesn’t quite match up. There might be an odd sequence flashback? in the Abyss though. Who knows? Response was just minutes after theirs.

  5. Guys, it’s obviously not that original movie the Abyss. There’s a very different version called THE ABYSS SPECIAL EDITION. The Special Edition has everything you guys are talking about.

  6. Wow. I thought I was the only one who has ever seen that rare copy of Abyss SE. Glad some *real* movie buffs stumbled upon this thread. I probably saw you at the convention last year. We didn’t get as many folks as the Big Lebowski viewing but we have the best fans. That crazy Millie chick, and that guy who carries the pillow around. Think it’s Sean. Anyway. The interplay between characters, the tension, and the final payoff when you discover the secret behind the secret. I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t yet seen this movie yet.

  7. “Said person may have then become trapped in the apartment, I’m not sure”

That is 100% the special edition of the Abyss. Ed Harris was the main actor and the apartment was under water,

Great movie and one of my all time favorites.

  8. This page is being trolled. People from rerolled.org got asked the same question and then found this and now are leaving silly replies. Long ago, there was a thread about someone asking about a movie and despite every sign pointing to The Abyss, the OP didn’t think it was. Now it’s becoming an overused meme on that site that’s being exported here.
