This was an old black & white movie I watched on TV as a kid back in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I only caught the last part and wished I had seen it all as it was intriguing. I’ve kept an eye out and never seen it since.
Scene was set in 1600-1700s maybe. People were gathering to witness public executions by beheadings. A young woman was being taken there by her “friends” telling her this is what she needed to do. The answer to her situation (which I had missed out on) was to go to the executioner. After the prisoners were beheaded, it was opened up to the public as the executioner was hired and available. Anyone who wanted the executioner to end their life could come up. She was scared, but took off her shoes and went up and placed her head on the block. The axe came down and you saw the weight of her head land in the basket. Next scene was her in modern day clothes , goes into an antique store and she sees her shoes she took off at her beheading centuries ago.
