Hello, everyone!

I saw this film on television in the mid- to late-nineties: A color film, whose language I’m sure was English but featured Latin actors.

I want to say the main witch’s name was Maria or Teresa and she is being condemned by some king type figure. She is able to whisper spells and reach a heaven-like place where she consults her aunt (?) who was also condemned to death by this man. It seems he is obsessed with her, as he keeps her alive and tries to love her, even while torturing her as his prisoner. He cuts out her tongue to keep her from speaking spells, but she learns to access heaven without words. Eventually she is cremated alive and I don’t remember how it is resolved.
