Which Godzilla movie?

Although I am not such a huge fan of such horror movies, for some reason, I have a feeling that this clip from the Recess episode; “Big Ol’ Mikey” featuring Mikey’s dream is parodying some scenes from a certain Godzilla movie, but because there have been so many Godzilla movies produced, I can’t tell which one is it?

One thing’s for sure is that it’s not the one with Matthew Broderick or even the remake from the 2010’s either since they came way AFTER that Recess episode according to the release dates.

I tried searching almost everywhere: Google, Wikipedia, the Recess wiki, and even IMDb, but there was nothing either even though there must be something there.

If anyone around here is a big Godzilla fan or even an expert on such horror movies, please let me know which Godzilla movie is that episode clip when you can. I’m in no hurry. I need to know because I’m working on a special project concerning references and homages.

Note: Despite Mikey being a giant human being in that dream, the scenes are NOT spoofing any of the Attack of the 50ft Woman movies.

  1. I’m not sure it’s referencing a specific movie so much as the genre. If anything, it looks more like The Amazing Colossal Man (1957) than Godzilla. There’s a touch of Mr Stay Puft from Ghostbusters (1984), too.

    1. And yet somehow, Mikey is heard roaring and seen acting in the same manner as Godzilla does. I’m sure of that. Just don’t know which one.

      Btw, just out of curiosity, which scenes remind you of Colossal Man and Ghostbusters? Enlighten me. I’m all ears.

      Thanks for trying to help too.

      1. Mainly the low angle shots of him as he looms between the buildings. There’s a bit in The ACM where he stares through a skyscraper window which is vaguely similar to the moment in your clip where Mikey appears behind the balcony. IIRC, TACM also picks up and throws vehicles and, at one stage, an attempt is made to reason with him via megaphone.

        In the case of Ghostbusters, there are similar shots of Stay Puft’s giant feet leaving imprints in the street.

        Incidentally, Godzilla has a very distinctive roar which is quite different from Mikey’s – you can hear an audio clip of it here: https://youtu.be/7zhJljblPcY – Mikey’s seems more of a generic monster growl.

          1. @Irtmadmin

            Thanks. I didn’t know until now since I’m not familiar with much chat abbreviations.

            @Popfiction

            Was the whole army tanks and jets shooting scene also spoofing TACM too? Plus, any other scenes you know that could parody any other movie or not really?

  2. Well, I’ll give Popfiction a Solve, though I’m not sure how to characterize it since there was really no movie name.
