Movie I think I saw it late 70s early 80s. An (abused?) girl makes a scarecrow and thinks of it as her friend. An escaped convict hides in the barn, finds the scarecrow and takes it’s clothes and puts them on and then proceeds to fall asleep/pass out. Girl finds him and thinks her wish has come true and her scarecrow has been bought to life. I think I remember a scene on a cliff and maybe the convict ends up sacrificing himself for her. HELP!

Looks similar but I don’t think that’s it, I see no mention of a scarecrow in the synopsis but I will try to check it out. The scarecrow part is the thing I remember vividly. Thank you for this lead though, will let you know if I’m wrong.

It’s a (great) film of two halves. The scarecrow deception you remember occurs early on, setting the stage for a subtly unconventional domestic drama.
