Possible late 70’s but more likely an early 80’s haunted movie

I’ve seen one post on the Internet before looking for this same movie but there was no reply and now i can’t find the post. And it always seemed like i dreamed it up but I think I only came in on part of the movie (in the late 80’s) and never saw it again.

A young brunette woman moves into a  mansion (possibly a castle, but I think not) and finds that she resembles another woman who once lived there but is deceased. I think I remember the woman seeing a portrait on the wall of this lookalike. She possibly inherited the house and there might be a man involved, who once knew the deceased lady? Anyhow, the person who posted on Internet said she remembered the portrait lady being a distant aunt and was haunting her. Help! Lol

    1. It definitely isn’t Burnt Offerings. I have seen that one. But the movie I’m inquiring about does not seem like a well-known movie at all. Probably a c-d movie.

  1. THE HEARSE has a lady moving into her Aunts house, and she meets a man. The aunt was a witch or something.

    1. That is one of my mom’s favorite movies I have seen numerous times so it isn’t it, either. I’m usually pretty good at having seen a lot of the old, popular thrillers but this one is a movie I have never been able to figure out, which leads me to believe it is just more obscure.

    1. Nope… But I do see the similarity as far as the portrait. I do not think my movie was quite as old as One Minute Before Death. And the portrait woman/young woman had a lot darker hair. Could have been black or black-brown.. And the main character was probably about 17-19 years old. It seems I’ve seen this actress before in an old thriller but not sure. She was a pretty girl, though. I almost think her hair was a little wavy, frizzy and full.

  2. Could it be “The Haunting of Sarah Hardy?” That was a TV movie in 1989. It’s very dramatic, Sarah is “haunted” by her mother, whom she resembles and who committed suicide by walking into the ocean. Ironically, the “mansion” in the film is the Pittock Mansion in Portland, OR, which is nowhere near the coast, although it’s a lovely period house.
