Hello, I know that I may not get an answer because there isn’t much to go on, but this movie has haunted me for more or less 20 years and I’m really desperate for a peace of mind…
I saw it on the TV as a kid in the early 1990’s (94-96) and I vividly remember only one brief scene from it. It may have taken place in another reality, there were big troll-like creatures (puppets or animatronics) that were like the “monsters/antagonists” of the movie. I think they captured people and made them into trees or somesuch. This particular scene set in a dark forest where the ground started to “boil”, bubbles formed in some black goo where the fruits/nuts of the trees fell.
The protagonists (?) of the movie might have been children. They probably entered/exited the realm through a book.
The movie likely is from late 80’s or very early 90’s because we lived in a country where new movies aired very slowly on TV…
I’m very sorry for the vaguest description ever but I did my best to push out all the details a little girl saw so long ago. I sincerely hope someone has an idea…

A-ha! I made a discovery – with a hint from the internet to use the IMDb to find the movie by keyword/genre/etc I was finally able to locate the long-lost movie!
