Eventually, he is killed. the final scene is on another beach somewhere else…and there , lying in the surf, is the same man. When the camera gets closer it reveals a different number tattooed on his neck. What the hell is this movie?
I answered another post about this same movie, it is called “The Next One” (1984), it stars Keir Dullea and Adrienne Barbeau. It has the exact same plot you describe.
It sounds a little like the sci-fi movie called Riverworld.
Definitely “The Next One” (1984), a christlike man wakes up on a beach with amnesia and has a tattoo on his neck, he has powers and turns out he is a time traveler and Jesus was another time traveler, but his time machine malfunctioned and wound up in a different time. It ends with him dying and another just like him wakes up on another beach.
