I don’t know if this film was a made for t.v. movie or a Saturday afternoon broadcast of an old film.  My sense is that it was probably made in the 1970’s.  A guy is stuck in the desert, American southwest probably.  I don’t remember any other human characters, but the guy seemed to be fighting monsters or demons of some kind and trying to get his car going to escape.  I have a vague recollection of him possibly having a rifle and shooting at a bird or pterodactyl-type creature, and a similar creature hitting the windshield of his car or being run over by it as he tries to flee.  The creatures were done with stop motion animation I believe.  I seem to think the ending was one of those unresolved endings, where it may have been unclear whether the guy finally escaped or not.  I know there’s not too much to go on there, but does any of this ring a bell?  Thanks!
