Flying rubber demon

I saw this movie sometime in the 90’s? It was featured on Son of Svengoolie- which is a Chicago based TV show that features old, bad, horrible or just classic horror movies. It was in English, set in the US approximately in the early 1970s. I seem to remember it being in color.

Plot: Four dumb teens go into a cave where they shouldn’t go. They see a book that I think was just called “The Book”. Some old guy says “Don’t read THE BOOK”. But they do anyway. He laughs after they read the book because bad things start to happen. He even says “Heehee! I told you not to read the book!”

At some point they run out of the cave and the picture on the screen is literally a fiery torch running across a black screen.

The effects in this movie are extremely cheap and make it well worth seeing.

Of the original 4, 3 of the kids die. I don’t remember too much except bad acting, bargain basement effects and bad lines.

At the end of the movie the final teen has to go to the hospital, but they remove his necklace that has a cross on it. He yells, “No! Not my cross” over and over. And then a flying rubber demon- probably a 6″ figurine is seen suspended above a tacky landscape with the noise of air rushing by. The demon goes and kills the last teen at the hospital.

The End
