This was probably from the 1970s. A young woman was trying to break into some career (maybe acting?), and she met with an important man in the field who told her to “go to hell” (or possibly “drop dead”). No idea why. She kills herself, and her father sets out to take revenge on the man he holds responsible. He somehow lures him to a nonexistent address (empty lot), gets him into a nearby home, and traps him in a cell in the basement, where he holds him prisoner. I don’t remember how it ends, but he does at some point explain to his prisoner why he’s there. Would love to know the title! Thank you, thank you!
