This is driving me nuts, please help

I only remember bits and pieces about this movie

The movie revolves around a young boy living with his mother the boy discovers he has some kind of magical / supernatural ability. His father was killed by his business partner who knows about the boys powers and seek to harness them. This Evil guy visits the mother and son to “check in” upon occasion.

I also vaguely remember a fight scene after the evil business partner somehow manages to harness some of the power, the fight levels a factory / laboratory.

Anyone know of it, I know it wasn’t very popular and thus I am having trouble finding it, but i cant get it out of my head
