Early 50’s short. Man waiting for Jesus in a bookstore

Does anyone know this film short from the early 50’s? I’ve compiled a list below of all the details I have that can be remembered. I’m trying to identify the short for a friend of mine who saw when she was a girl. Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Short
Watched in movie theater
Early 50’s
Black & white (probably)
Man in bookstore waiting for Jesus
(He’s somehow received message to meet Jesus there)
Another guy in store keeps trying to talk to him
Jesus doesn’t arrive
Turns out other guy was Jesus
Ends with man trying to find where the guy suddenly went
Man realizes the guy was Jesus
Sorry for the scant details bit hopefully someone will recognise something. Thanks again

  1. My best guess is “The Guest”(1951)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043607/?ref_=kw_li_tt

‘A shoemaker, who has been a religious skeptic since the death of his wife and child, dreams that the Lord has spoken to him and will visit him the next day. He cleans his shop and prepares for the Lord’s arrival, and helps several people in distress. When the Lord does not appear, he is depressed with the thought he has been forsaken, but his Pastor points out that he was visited by the Lord through his good deeds to others during the day.’

Some of the details don’t quite match, but it sounds a lot like it. It’s based on the Leo Tolstoy story ‘Where Love Is, God Is’.
Sorry I couldn’t find a link for you to watch it.

    1. Thanks so much for your thoughts and help. I will now pass the film details to my friend but I am already in anticipation of her saying “That is it!”. To me, it’s already sounding like it MUST be it. I’m sure I will be back to thank you more in due course!

      1. I hope we were able to help your friend! I will keep my finger’s crossed! Please come back and let us know.

        1. I’m not sure what happened to my last reply. It didn’t look that messed up when I posted it! I just want to confirm, having spoken to my friend, that it was indeed The Guest that she had seen. She’s not sure why she thought it was set in a bookstore and just puts that down to being an unsure 7 year old at the time. She is so happy to now know what it was and the search now begins to find a copy! Again, I really want to thank you so much for taking the time to help out. Your gesture has truly made a stranger very, very happy. Thank you.

    1. I am so grateful to sandnc for helping out. It’s a shame we can’t update our original post headings to include “SOLVED” in them
