Hello, I am trying to figure out what the heck this old movie I saw part of once actually was.

I probably saw it as a pre-teen so late 80/early 90s on tv.

It was in colour, probably 1950s or 60s at the latest.

It was in English, probably an American movie.

It was probably a musical, but not entirely sure.

I have no idea who the actors were.

It was about a girl who was part of a traveling show who sang, then she became a star on stage. At one point she had a boyfriend who gave her elephant figurines before every show. He died in some kind of accident and she got an elephant figurine that was broken in half.
