I’ve been trying to find the title of a movie I watched on British TV as a kid (30ish years ago), I’ve never seen it since. It was an American comedy film in colour, probably made in the 50s/60s. It was about a man who either built or renovated a house for his family and near the end someone (his Dad I think) overloads a mains socket and burns the place down.

I seem to remember that the main character looked like a cross between Cary Grant and James Garner and the person that overloaded the socket, possibly in a yellow painted utility room, was an older man.

It’s not Mr Blandings Builds his Dream House or The Money Pit.
