There is a scene almost exactly like what you’re describing in “The Blue Bird, ” a famous Shirley temple movie. A bunch of children are in Heaven waiting to be born, and two do not want to be separated as they will not find each other on earth.
I remember this movie in color, but it may have been colorized. It has been shown on TV a lot and I believe it’s on youtube as well.
