So I saw this film palying at a friends house when I was three or four, and it’s bugged me since – cause I don’t know what really happened. It would have been around 1988.
I think the scene happened in the desert – I think I remember sand and light brown colors. Three or four people are trying to get out of a crawlspace (I think it was under the sand?) and something growling is coming after them. The first few succeed in getting out but it catches the last person and then there is a shot of them standing around looking sad as he’s obviously been eaten, I think.
It is possible there was no monster at all, and something was collapsing, but I think there was a creature. I thought for years as a kid that it was somthing to do with Ghostbusters, but I don’t know why I thought that.
Tremors (1990)
I don’t think so – I’ve watched through the scenes but there’s no scene where a group are crawling on their elbows in a tunnel. I’ve looked at all the death scenes on you tube, couldn’t see anything similar. Although the desert feel was similar a bit.
“The Terror Within”(1989)?
or “The Terror Within II”(1991)? Below is a trailer for the 1st one.
You can watch both movies in their entirety on Youtube.
Thank for the suggestions! The feeling was close, but I don’t think it was. I almost wonder whether the tunnel they were crawling through was sort of spongey, if that makes sense? I was very little at the time, so it’s more impressions that firm pictures.
I’m gonna go with The Strangeness from 1985. Sounds about right, though it’s been ages since I last watched it.

“The Killings at Outpost Zeta”(1980)?
It has a scene like this.
