I remember seeing this on TV in the late 70’s where it was in the future and people would go from place to place by dialing a key pad and then a door would show you where you are going, you could see into the door like a window.

That movie is Starman (1984) with Jeff Bridges.

Please write back and let us know if that is correct.
Dammit! I HATE WordPress. WRONG MOVIE. I’M AN IDIOT! DISREGARD!
Reminds me of Millenium (1989)

Humans a thousand years from now are a dying breed, so they need to use time travel to carefully gather otherwise-dead people from accidents like plane crashes, keep them alive for future breeding but without causing paradox. Of course, things start to go wrong when a modern-day person recognizes a future agent who had not met him yet — forcing the agent to go back in time and fulfill their first meeting to prevent the paradox.
Anyway, the time period is off (no pun intended), but the dialing a portal and using it as a window / door fits.
I want to say it was maybe a TV movie.
