In an apocalyptic/dystopian future, people can’t survive out in the sunlight (ozone layer was destroyed?). The parents of the protagonist raise him on plants grown in their home. Some crazy things happen which I can’t really remember, but at the end of the movie the parents have become clouds of spores or something, it’s revealed that the son can go outside safely and the parents give his girlfriend the ability to go outside as well. I saw the movie on TV, probably a movie channel, sometime between the late 80s and mid 90s.
