Saw this movie years ago, but I remember there is a remote village next to a forest, inside the forest is shadow type monster thing that eats flesh I believe. And in the beginning of the movie it like threatens or destroys this village. And I think that the main hero guy gets this disease that the shadow monster thing has towards the end. Any help is appreciated.

also I believe it is similar to the studio gibli movies. (not sure how to spell his name) like spirited away and howl’s moving castle.
